Stone Memorial Library

CONNEAUTVILLE - Happy New Year from Stone Memorial Library, where all are welcome to visit, read, study, participate, and chat! We provide access to books, audiobooks, DVDs, access to computers and the internet as well as WiFi, board games and puzzles, magazines, and more. We also have quite a few programs that are open and FREE for all those willing to participate.

We recently added some new technology to our collection! Our newest item type available to borrow is a hot spot, which uses the T-Mobile cell network to create a WiFi signal that you can use to access the internet wherever you are. Please contact the library for more details.

Bring the kids every Tuesday morning for Story Time. Come in around 10 am for a bit of socializing, playtime, crafting, interactive storytelling, and snacks, all put together by Julie Klingler. Each week we explore early learning and literacy with a new theme.

Our weekly Stitch Club meets weekly on Thursdays at 10 am. All skill levels and types of stitchery are welcome to join, from crocheting and knitting to embroidery.

Our monthly Book Club will be reading The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown for February. The next book club meeting will be held on Thursday, February 20, at 6 pm. Copies of the book are available to borrow at the library. Call or stop in for more information.

Saturday Crafternoons are here! On February 8, we will be offering a Cricut vinyl class, where you can learn how to cut designs using a Cricut machine out of Vinyl! The class will last from 2 to 4 pm. On February 22, we will be offering a Woodburning workshop from 2 to 3:30 pm. Come get creative with us!

Thank you to all of those who continue to show support for our library. Without such strong support from our community, we would be unable to properly serve our community. It is because of you that we can continue to serve you by providing all that we can.

If there is a book or a program that you would like to see in our library, be sure to let our director Lauren Lowery know!

You can join us on Saturday, January 25, for a Cardboard Makedo program, where we will be repurposing cardboard to create fun costumes to play with. The program is family oriented, and all are welcome to come craft along.

The Stone Memorial Library is located at 1101 Main St. Conneautville PA, 16406. We are open Monday & Friday, 1 – 6pm, Tuesday & Thursday, 9am – 6pm, and Saturdays 9am – 4pm. Feel free to also contact us via phone / fax at 814-587-2142.

Springboro Library happenings

- A Gold Level Library -

SPRINGBORO - This year we say “Goodbye!” to our beloved, long time Director, Joy. Our community will miss her here. Joy has been an extremely devoted Library Director and holds a long list of accomplishments here at “SPL”. Her accomplishments include securing our Gold Star rating.

Eligible applicants must have 60 college credits and either have, or be willing to obtain, 9 Library Science credits and obtain Child Abuse Clearances, Act 114 and Act 34 clearances.

The Gold Star rating is a special award for libraries that successfully incorporate the five areas of Literacy that most affect a community. The library’s intentional investment in quality literature and programs add to the benefits for this specific area of Pennsylvania.

We plan to continue the programs Joy put in place. We will remain devoted to providing the same level of excellence for our residents. This includes our craft workshops, pre-school story time, Kids Create, senior cafe’s and providing the most up to date information on specific Crawford County services.

We aim to keep the most recent and popular authors and titles in print and audio form. Audio books are at the front of the library with new books. Some new fiction and non-fiction books on display this week are: W. C. Ryan’s “ A House of Ghosts”, Danielle Steel’s “Spy”, Joseph Haywood’s “Running Dark”, Colleen Hoover’s “Regretting You” and “The Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Sourcebook” by Glenn R. Schiraldi, PhD.

On January 16, we had a winter craft workshop. Our group made icicle hangings for the wall, window or door. We are currently planning an additional Valentines workshop for February 6th. Local artist, Tammy Clement, will be here to coach us making gingerbread hearts for Valentines Day. The next regular workshop will be on February 20, when we hold a bead craft night.

Did you know that the typical American adult reads 4 books per year? According to the American Library Association, 65% of American adults read a print book last year. And 20% of American adults listened to an audio book. Either way, we have you covered!

Although the weather has been fairly nice for January, we have stocked up more good stuff to cure cabin fever. We try to keep the most recent and popular authors and titles in print and audio form. Audio books are at the front of the library with new books. Some new fiction and non-fiction books on display this week are: Nicci French “ The Lying Room”, John Grisham “The Guardians”, Olivia Hawker “One for the Blackbird, one for the Crow”, Linda Green “The Last Thing She Told Me” and Gregg Olsen’s “If You Tell”.

This month we are purging the shelves! Just like the Chinese New Year tradition of clearing out to make room for good thing to come in the new year, we are getting rid of unread books to make room for new ones. We will have a great big book sale in the spring! Hard back books will be priced at .50 and paperbacks will be 25 cents. Make room on your shelves now!

Public libraries are a great asset to any community. We are continually upgrading our system and adding more services for our patrons. In addition to a first rate pre-school story time and popular craft workshops we have had senior cafe’s, community chat evenings, game and puzzle nights, book clubs and more. Most recently, we are adding hotspots. Hotspots operate on the T-mobile network and grant internet access to the patron. The library does not track your usage. But they can turn off usage if not returned on time. The new hotspots are available to check out for 14 days at all Crawford County libraries. Check out our website or Facebook page to see more.

Remember, it is free to get a library card for kids and adults. There are many benefits. Take advantage of all your library has to offer. We aim to provide the most current educational materials as well as entertainment media and crafts for our community.

Kids can also do crafts on Saturdays at 11 am when we hold “Kids Create” for kids from pre-school age to age 11. This workshop follows our pre-school story time. Kids Create and story time are led by an experienced Pre- K teacher. We welcome parents to stay and read or get on the internet or check out our CD selection or check out a movie, etc.

Remember, we continually update our magazine, music and movie selections as well. Come in and check out all the new kid’s and adult movies for January. We have some television series on DVD also.

We have collection #4 of the rotating Playaways in. If you have never tried “playaways”, they are a nice alternative to books . Just plug in your head phones and settle in somewhere comfortable to listen. They are for all ages and include fiction and non-fiction.
