THE PLEDGE OF ALLIGIANCE

If you don’t pledge, then take a walk,
Run if you so choose.
I suggest you consider the consequences
And what you have to lose.

Lady Liberty doesn’t ask much in return,
Though there’s exceptions now and then.
There’s never a way of predicting
As to the hows and when.

One day you’re secure and carefree,
Not a worry in your world.
But others may have different ideas
A different pledge when their story is told.

Many of us dug foxholes,
Others learned how to fly a plane.
Country lads learned to sail the seas
And their pledge was always the same.

“Under God” is perfectly fine with us,
We’ve seen what other choices are.
Just in case you change your mind,
The door is always ajar!
