The Budget

It’s back to the foxholes boys!
There will be no pay today.
At least that’s what our Congress
Has recently been heard to say.

Something about a budget,
Without one no money’s in the till.
Hope someone informs our enemies
If anything impresses him this will.

One day you’re secure and carefree,
Not a worry in your world.
But others may have different ideas
A different pledge when their story is told.

Be sure to call home to the families,
Tell them, “There’s no check in the mail,
Set up a charge at the grocers,
He knows you’ll pay without fail.”

C-Rations and K-Rations for you.
Now there’s a soldier’s favorite food!
Take it from one who shared in that diet,
Didn’t take much to get in the mood.

Just remember names when the time comes
When you’re called on to cast your vote.
Tell the ones who’ve caused this mess

To pack up and take a slow boat!
