State of the Union

“State of the Union”—now, that’s a joke!
Even a blind man can answer that.
We’re in a state as never before,
It’s obvious where we’re at.

Most of my life we were the model,
A model always held in respect.
Today it’s a different story,
No one knows what to expect.

Granted, we’re better off than most,
Our children have a place to sleep.
And food on the table is no problem,
It’s there seven days a week.

It’s sad to watch the daily news
And see those that aren’t faring well
The expressions on those precious faces
Have a different story to tell.

State of the Union is one thing,
State of the world is another tale.
When the final report card is issued,
The obvious grade is FAIL!
