This poem inspired by a recent
Conneaut Lake Elementary School concert ...

Music

If you doubt music is alive in America,
You should have been with me this past Thursday night.
Every musician was from our area
Every song was a pure delight.

The instrumentalists weren’t professional,
Attained from some professional pool
Each instrument was in the small hands
Of a student from our elementary school.

When they weren’t playing, they were smiling
Which added to the program prepared,
“Here I am Mommy and Daddy,
It’s great you’re here—that you cared.”

Oh, there were grandparents everywhere,
Seems like they’re always near at hand.
Most can’t play a note of music,
They leave that for grandchildren to understand.
