If I Could Be A Poet

If I could be a poet
I’d write a witty line
Then I would write another
That with the first did rhyme.

I’d try to tell a story
And make the words resound
I’d search for words of wisdom
And a subject most profound.

Then I’d put it all on paper
For everyone to see
And if I’ve done my very best
What more would you ask of me.

Someday, someone may read my poem
Someone with a wayward soul
If a moment of peace and hope I bring
I’d say I’ve reached my goal.

Such is the way of poets
It’s our nature to expound
Our words may not bring fame or fortune
But in satisfaction we abound.
