For the Old Folks

I sit alone at night
My mind floats in reveries
And open wide the door
To old time memories.

Times that I had forgotten
Suddenly become vividly alive
It’s like a painted picture
Being placed before my eyes.

It starts with the music
The big bands used to play
And the love songs the vocalists sang
That blew your heart away.

Then there was the moonlight
Shining on the water of the lake
When lovers walked the shoreline
Not considering it a chance to take.

But this is now and that was then
How things have changed with time
In this modern life we rush around
Not like the old time life th at was sublime.

But my reveries are all that’s left
Of the days when we were young
And how we waited for Saturday night
When number one on the “Hit Parade” was sung.
