Could Be

When you compare the Earth
To the Galaxy in which it abides
It’s like a speck of dust
Laying on the mountains side.

If you compare a person
To the size of the Earth
It’s like a drop of water
In the foaming rolling surf.

If you take a grain of sand
From the beaches of the world
And give it the ability to think
You have a miracle unfurled.

So this is where the comparison ends
The Human were endowed with so much
Reading, writing, arithmetic to start
Written language, communication, extrapolation and such.

If the Human has such power to use
It’s time to cease our frivolous trends
And apply our talents to save our world
And insure our balance before it ends.

Minerals, chemicals and fluids used in excess
Will turn the planet color from green to ruse
Our Earth becomes a shell hurling through space
Just barely qualifying as a speck of dust.

No we have a reminder of what could be
An uninhabited, unvegetated shell of our Earth
But what will it matter to the extinct
Without water there is no drop on a rolling surf.
