IN MEMORIAM

This is a reprint of a poem published by John J. (Penny) Panciera
January 6, 1925 – July 17, 2011
(Local Poet Laureate of Conneaut Lake)

A MORNING

Have you ever spent a morning
In the springtime of the year
In the forest with Mother Nature
And enjoy what you see and hear?

The honking of the wild geese
As their “V” is headed north
The drumming grouse, the cawing crow,
The owl as he ventures forth.

Don’t rush the visitation,
Take your time—enjoy it all
Pay attention to each bird you hear
And his distinctive call.

No symphony can duplicate,
No artist with brush in hand
Can mix and blend, perform and draw
That you might understand.

Pray tell me of another spot
Where you can get so close to God,
Not a church, cathedral or evangelist’s tent
Or any synagogue.

The invitation’s always open;
You have but to take the time.
He put it there for all to enjoy
That gift is yours and mine!
