New Children at Conneaut Valley Head Start Print E-mail

Conneaut Valley Head Start children have arrived and are getting used to the new year. The children who are returning are getting use to new teachers, rest time and a longer day. They seem to be adapting well. The new childen are excited about all the new toys and classroom. They all are very happy and interested in everything they are doing. On the bus ride home many are so tired that they fall asleep almost as soon as they get on their seat belts. For the first few weeks the children will be learning the new routine and the rules. Over all the beginning has been a success.

A majority of the Conneaut Lake Regional Police Commission meeting consisted of trying to make a decision of whether or not to send Jett, the police dog, off for some additional training.

Jett has gone to many regularly scheduled training sessions, which is quite normal for his job description. He has also done some traveling to other states for more specialized education. This particular road trip would see Jett arriving in Ohio.

One of the original experts in the field of this particular dog will be on hand at the Ohio session, which is not the norm because he hales from another country.

Some on the commission expressed that they felt that he had had enough training and was up to speed, while others saw a benefit, especially if it would help the trainer as well.

The last time Jett made a voyage, a lot was discovered in terms of the way he was being handled. The officer who is in charge of the dog actually was schooled on some techniques that had been being carried out in a counterproductive manner. This enabled a better dog/handler relationship in the end as the officer learned quite a bit during that trip.

Too Close For Comfort! Print E-mail

Too Close For Comfort : In the very early morning hours of August 19, 2011, a severe storm appeared to hover over Linesville. The tree in this picture once stood at the End of the Road Campground, just outside of Linesville, along the shores of Pymatuning Lake. Workers removed the tree after lightning struck it during the above-mentioned storm system. One can see where the bark was "torn" from the top to the bottom. In an area closer to the base of the huge pine, there was a very thin deep space in which one could lodge a skinny piece of cardboard or a clipboard, for lack of a better description. For the whole saga, please see "Lisa's Rants & Raves," "Storm Stories."
