There is good news for the Conneaut Lake Regional Police Commission, as the cost of the insurance policy, for the department, is going down substantially.

Dan Petruso, of B.J. Petruso Agency, reviewed the policy with the Commission during the September meeting.

Those present for the meeting were: Rose Mumau, Township Secretary, Roy Whaley, Sadsbury Township Supervisor, Tim Kaider, Mayor of Conneaut Lake, Richard Holabaugh, President of Conneaut Lake Borough Council, Kevin VanHonk, Chairman of the Sadsbury Township Board of Supervisors and Todd Pfeifer, Chief of Police.

Petruso explained that Selective, the current company, took police departments out of their municipal program. Therefore, no discounts are available.

The new company, EMC, offers lower deductibles and is also able to include a bunch of different coverage under one umbrella, so to speak.

The bottom line is that the premium was $24,277 and will be reduced to $20,079.

Whaley said that he just hoped that it wasn't some introductory rate or special. Petruso said that he certainly did not think that would be the case.

Jarrin Sperry was named Conneaut Schools Superintendent when the Conneaut School Board of Education met in monthly voting session Wednesday evening.

Sperry, no relation to Conneaut School Board of Education president Jody Sperry, has been serving as Assistant Superintendent and over the past couple of month's as substitute superintendent due to the medical absence of former superintendent Wendy Szally who left the district last November. Szally recently was approved for a disability retirement.

Sperry was given a three contract that calls for a wage freeze in the second year.

The vote to appoint Sperry was 8-0 with Dr. Carol Bocan absent due to illness with Jody Sperry, Dr. Walter Thomas, Kathleen Hootman, Don Ellis, Jr, Rick Kelly, Lorri Drumm, Gina McCauley, and David Schaef voting in favor of the hiring.

The Board of Education does not plan to hire a new assistant superintendent with the position the second administrative position cut from this year's budget.

The other position cut was the assistant principal at Conneaut Valley High School. David Maskery, who was the CVHS assistant principal, was moved to the elementary principal position at Conneaut Lake Elementary to replace the retiring Marcia DeKramer.
