VISIT TO WOODCOCK - Conneaut Valley Head Start/Pre-K students had a wonderful time on their field trip to Woodcock Dam where they walked to the see the raging water, played on the playground, enjoyed a picnic lunch and had a surprise given to them by Mrs. Allen's mother. The children each received a pumpkin to take back to school to explore. During the trip students observed over 20 salamanders, spiders, squirrels and chipmunks. They were hoping to see a bear, but the adults were very happy to have not seen one. Twin Creeks Head Start is currently accepting applications for the 2011-2012 school year. Head Start is an early childhood program-serving children ages 3-5 years of age including those in the Conneaut School District Area for an application call 814-724-6530 or 1-800-370-8540.

Potential costs and savings of the various school use plans being looked at were shared at the recent B.U.S.S.- Better Utilization of School Space - budget committee meeting held Tuesday night at Conneaut Valley High School.
Those figures will be shared at the combined B.U.S.S committee meeting tonight at Linesville High School.
This publication recently reviewed the architect's study of how full buildings are now - none of the 6 buildings at capacity. In fact buildings now used reflect only a 56.6 % use of capacity.
The budget committee looked over a printout of this year's budget and then those for 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15. The 2014-15 budget is seen as a critical time period for all who project ahead as state retirement issues and funding meet a critical point then.

~ News and Analysis ~
Rumors and misinformation apparently surrounds the Conneaut School District efforts to look at what is called B.U.S.S. - Better Utilization of School Space.
With the school directors meeting in regular session Wednesday evening, a number of residents addressed the directors, which, in part, showed misunderstandings within the district.
Jeremy Burnham of the Conneaut Valley area, while saying he understands the difficulties facing school directors [both his father and grandfather served on the board in years past] said the idea of building another school can't be justified, urging keeping the current setup.
None of the plans under consideration to address declining student enrollment - 103 from last year's 3rd day enrollment to this year's - and 600 in the past 10 years, calls for building a new school, only using the buildings in place now. A couple of plans do call for the closing of building or buildings depending on use, student configuration, etc.
Two options for building use, Options 3 and 4, putting grades 3 - 8 basically into high school buildings at Conneaut Lake and Conneaut Valley, have been eliminated as not very practical as it would entail an amount of remodeling to accommodate the students, in addition to an overall lack of regular classroom space.
