By 8-0 vote, the Conneaut School Board decided to return to an 8-period day beginning with the fall 2011 school term for its high school students at Conneaut Lake, Conneaut Valley and Linesville High Schools.

Discussions were held at board meetings in October and November with a final vote set for December meetings that were cancelled due to weather.

The vote came at the board's January 12 meeting with board members Dr. Carol Bocan, Dr. Walter Thomas, Jody Sperry, Don Ellis Jr., Gina McCauley, Rick Kelly, Cheryl Krachkowski, and David Schaef present and voting. Lorri Drumm was absent.

Schaef said he voted with some reluctance on the item being recommended by the school administration and doing away with the block schedule which featured longer periods during the day and having the class for one half of the year.

Sadsbury Township supervisors change leadership roles Print E-mail

Sadsbury Township Supervisors held a reorganization meeting, as is required by law, on the first Monday of the year.

However, unlike other years when everything remained basically the same, supervisors made two rather significant changes.

The first of which was when Roy Whaley, who served for more than five years as the chairman, nominated Kevin VanHonk to step into his position as Chairman of the Board of Sadsbury Township Supervisors. The motion was seconded, carried and the meeting was then officially turned over to VanHonk, with Whaley serving in the co-chair seat.

Councilwoman resigns, cites underhanded tactics, false accusations, more Print E-mail
Monday, 03 January 2011 00:00

Linesville Borough Councilwoman Sue Lewandowski has resigned from the Linesville council, citing in her Nov. 30, 2010, letter of resignation that she was "resigning my position due to repeated underhanded tactics from the council president, false accusations and inappropriate behavior in regards to a public position from council president."

She wrote that "perhaps at a later time without Mr. Fizer in his role I would again be an asset to council."

Bolen Road Extension to be turned over to Game Commission

The final regular meeting of the Sadsbury Township Supervisors was held in near blizzard conditions on the 14th of December. Missing in action were Road Master Dave Hubbard and Zoning Officer Paul Roiz. Hubbard’s absence was due to the road crew’s hectic schedule of working 12 hour shifts. Any time in between was used for needed rest.

A resident in attendance praised the workers for their excellent work in keeping the roads as clear as possible in less than ideal conditions.

George Zeljak and Attorney Jeff Millin were present as representatives of the Conneaut Lake Volunteer Fire Department. The reason for their visit had to do with a tax exemption issue.
