A single high school serving the student population in the Conneaut School District could be the school district's future if school board members follow the recommendation of their superintendent Jarrin Sperry, who made such recommendation when school directors met Wednesday evening.
A recommendation was needed following the public informational hearings held recently in each of the three attendance areas of Conneaut Lake, Conneaut Valley and Linesville.
Sperry said, “After hearing the presentations and recommendations from the various B.U.S.S. committees and community input at the three community meetings, along with administration’s own analysis, It’s the recommendation of the Conneaut School District Administration that the board implement Option 6B as presented to the board by the B.U.S.S. committee (including staggered start times to address transportation and budgetary concerns) for the 2012/2013 School year. Since that option involves reconfiguring the buildings, and the solicitor has advised that reconfiguration could potentially be considered as closure of one more buildings, the administration further recommends that the board schedule a public hearing on the reconfiguration to comply with Section 780 of the public school code. '
School District Solicitor George Joseph further explained that the District will announce a 15 day notice before conducting a required public hearing.

Marquette Savings Bank, in Conneaut Lake, has a reputation for supporting the community in many ways. Just one example, the bank has been known to donate money, to various area non-profits and charities, on an annual basis. This was the case on Monday, December 5, when six representatives, from five different organizations, gathered at the bank to receive some much anticipated and appreciated contributions. Pictured above are those who acted on behalf of their groups and are, from left: Clara Pazey, of the Linesville Food Pantry; Pat Kaider, (the First Lady of Conneaut Lake), of the Samaritans; Gary Humes, also from the Samaritans; Diane Rhodes, of the Conneaut Lake Shontz Memorial Library; Anita Hans, C.L. Marquette Branch Manager and check presenter; George Rutherford, of the Conneaut Lake Area Historical Society and Cindy Klink, of the Salvation Army. Klink is also employed by Marquette. The total monies donated were $4,900 with $2,000 being given to the Samaritans, $500 to the Salvation Army, $1,000 to the Linesville Food Pantry, $500 to Shontz Library and $900 to the Conneaut Lake Historical Society. As the pictures above indicate, all involved were very thankful and delighted to have received the generous donations from Marquette Savings Bank.

With two public informational meetings already held [at Conneaut Lake and Conneaut Valley] and a third one - at Linesville - set for this evening on the future use of Conneaut School District school buildings, it is anticipated that Conneaut Schools Superintendent Jarrin Sperry will make a recommendation on what he sees as the best use of space in the school district.
That announcement came at the school directors' work session last week following the annual re-organizational meeting at which Jody Sperry was re-elected president and Dr. Walter Thomas vice president. They were the only nominees for the positions.
Sperry and Thomas were sworn in to new 4-year terms, having been re-elected at the polls in November. They represent the Region III Area of Conneaut Lake Borough and the townships of Sadsbury, Greenwood, and East Fallowfield.
Also sworn in to 4-year terms were Lorri Drumm of the Region II area - Springboro and Conneautville Boroughs and the townships of Spring, Summerhill, and Summit.

Over 100 in attendance
The first of three informational meetings on the future of the Conneaut School District was held Wednesday evening at Conneaut Lake High School with just over 100 persons in attendance.
The overall tone of the meeting was described by one in attendance as "the meeting went very well. No screaming and very little 'negativity...'
Two more meetings to outline the problems and concerns facing the school district and what the configuration of the schools may look like are set - Dec. 6 at Conneaut Valley High School and Dec. 12 at Linesville High School. Both meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. in the old gyms. The public is invited to attend. Those wishing to speak to school directors and members of the Better Utilization of School Space - B.U.S.S - committees must sign in prior to the meeting.
Eleven people addressed the school directors and BUSS committee people.
The evening started with Conneaut Schools Superintendent Jarrin Sperry noting that nearly all school districts in the state face upcoming problems regarding finances and student enrollment among other items. He stressed the Conneaut School District was taking a pro-active stance to try to address matters facing the school district.
