Brenner remains on Council

Conneaut Lake Borough Councilwoman Loretta Brenner has not officially stepped down from her position.

The situation was brought to light during the March borough council meeting, when Council President Richard Holabaugh was asked about Brenner by a member of the Conneaut Lake Community Development Committee, (CDC).

Holabaugh said that she had not resigned in any kind of formal manner. She had discussed vacating her seat with Holabaugh, and with Secretary Linda Joyce, on two separate occasions, but that is where it ended.

2011 CONNEAUT LAKE Snowball Queen is Miss Julia Nicole Peters, 17, daughter of John and Kelli Peters of Conneaut Lake, also winner of the Platform Essay Award. Miss Peters chose "The Importance of Being a Blood Donor," as the subject of her essay and will use her reign to speak about this platform.

The Conneaut School Board of Education will meet in public session Tuesday, March 15, in the Linesville High School gymatorium to begin a serious review of the proposed budget to begin July 1.

Some controversy has been fueled in the area when another publication wrote that school district taxpayers could be facing a nearly 6 mill tax increase that would have to have the state approving several exceptions to go along with the Act 1 index the school district is allowed to raise without asking voters for some amount over that index.

Two members of the public addressed the school board at its regular monthly meeting Wednesday evening with Ron Korey from Conneaut Township saying people could not afford more taxes currently. He suggested at one point that the school district should cut back to its spending levels of 2006.

Girl Scouting is celebrating its 99th Birthday March 12. Springboro Library has a display to honor Girl Scouting. By Sonsuray Fields, Brownie Troop #30450, Jr Girl Scouts Emeri Phililps, and Kyrstin Schell decorated the store front. leader Gail Schell has a Daisy Girl Scout, Brownies, and Jr's, as well as Cadette's. She encourages former Girl Scouts to once again become involved with Girl Scouting. Thanks to the community for a successful Cookie Sale. Watch for booth sales.
