CELEBRATING FREEDOM ON INDEPENDENCE DAY - On July Fourth, our country celebrates its birthday, thus renewing and reaffirming the principles on which this country was founded. Freedom from tyranny, the right to free speech, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are a few of the freedoms we in the United States enjoy. We at The Community News hope you will join us and fellow advertisers inside in honoring these American values on July 4. Remember, it’s America forever. Here, in this great land, we enjoy many liberties shared with some of the most caring people in the world. Let’s give thanks for our good fortune as we pay tribute to this fine nation.

There will be no tax increase in the Conneaut School District for the year to begin July 1 as members of the Conneaut School District Board of Education, by 7-1 vote June 14, approved a $34,483,377 budget that included teacher furloughs, cuts in aides, and a cut in the number of administrators among others including supplies.
Real estate taxes will remain at 50.05 mills where one mill of tax equals $1 for every $1,000 of a property's assessed value.
This year alone, reflecting a proposed state budget that cuts funding to the district by $1.9 million, 14 teachers, nine support staff, and two administrators are being cut.
The state budget reflects no increase in special education funds again as well.
The district has not replaced at least 15 teachers in the past five years alone as student enrollment continues to decline.
