CLCDC proposes beautification for borough
The Conneaut Lake Borough Council held their July meeting, and conducted a public hearing concerning the Planning Commission and the CL Community Development Committee and their Land Development Standards under Article 6.
Dick Hollabaugh opened the hearing with the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag.
Secretary Linda Joyce took the minutes.
Up for discussion is the Design Standards for major land development, 606.1, for general designs.
The CLCDC stated that the CL Planning Commission has done a good job and now expressed concern over rear parking on Water Street in downtown Conneaut Lake and would like the current zoning map revised.
A new Sub-division and Land Development Ordinance is in the works and the map will be updated when the Ordinance is passed.
Bob Moss read some statutes, beginning with abandoned and run-down buildings and discussed possible ways of dealing with cleaning them up or tearing them down.
He stressed that buildings must be maintained; the goal of the committee is to keep Conneaut Lake looking beautiful.

A new option has emerged for study as the Conneaut School District, facing declining enrolment and stagnant revenues, that of keeping both Conneaut Lake Schools open and in use as they are now K - 6 and 7 - 12.
Calling it an East/West Option, CL resident Jennifer Bryer presented the option to members of the Conneaut School board when the directors met in regular session on Wednesday.
The school directors, in forming committees from the public, school administration and teachers, and board members are covering 4 areas: budget, facilities use, transportation and curriculum.
Option 1 is to use Conneaut Lake and Conneaut Valley High Schools as middle schools, Linesville High School as a senior high and keep the three elementaries; Option 2 is a North-South setup, closing Lake High and all others remain open; Option 3 is a K - 2 school at Linesville Schafer School, use Lake and Valley High Schools as grades 3 - 8 and Linesville as a senior high, while closing Lake and Valley Elementaries; Option 4 is use Linesville's two schools as grades 9 - 12, Valley and Lake High Schools as K - 8 grades; closing Lake and Valley Elementaries; and Option 5 is to leave all buildings as they are used now.

The figures are in on a repair and update of the facilities surrounding the football fields in the Conneaut School District and despite comments elsewhere they do not include a stadiums or stadium.
It is a study detailing costs of repairs to bleachers, light poles, and speaker systems among other items and also includes a cost if the school district would decide to use one field for its football teams where now there are two teams - Conneaut Valley and Linesville.
When the study began, there were three teams, with Conneaut Lake just recently merged into the Linesville High School program as lack of numbers of players between the two schools were addressed.
At last reports, as given at the Conneaut School Board work session Wednesday evening, there are over 50 players out for the summer conditioning program at Linesville and that most likely the school will have to name a traveling squad to match number of uniforms available.
