Pittsburgh Glass Works, LLC, formerly known as PPG, is again seeking a real estate tax reduction as they are appealing their current tax assessment of $3,124,000

Conneaut School District officials have been informed an appeal on the PGW current tax assessment is scheduled for October 1, with Crawford County Commissioners to make that decision in their role as tax assessment officers.

Any reduction in the PGW assessment then means property taxpayers in the district eventually end up making up that difference to bring in the same amount of taxes as before.

Several others are also appealing their assessments including Conneaut Lake Volunteer Fire Department, $482,891 over three properties; Linesville Borough, $23,950, most likely the building formerly leased by K & M Graphics with the borough to turn that building into the new police offices; Conneautville Amish Church, $52,694; Conneaut Lake High Street Community Church, $231.79; and a resident, James Oliver with three parcels, one at $21,950, one at $5,400, and one at $4,700.

The county appeals board, as noted, will hear arguments for the reduced tax assessments over the next month.

In other news, the school directors, who met in work session last week, heard reports that the opening day of school went well at each building. At one building a too large of a number of students using the cafeteria led to adjustments to better balance the number. At another school one student was sent home for wearing what appeared to be camoflauge underwear. Acouple of buildings reported several new students being registered that first day.

It was reported a new scoreboard, paid largely by boosters and others, had been put in at the Linesville soccer field for use this season. Part-time teachers were approved to attend Act 80 /Inservice day just as full-time teachers do.
