He asked Community News to publish a "ATV’s prohibited in State Park," public alert in this article, and signage is being placed at the Park prohibiting ATV’s from entering.

ATV’s are causing a serious erosion problem along old railroad beds, which in turn creates too much run-off, which then runs into the lake, creating problems for fish.

They are also very loud and disruptive to wildlife, and cause damage to creeks and forest floors if they do not stay on trails. This is detrimental to wildlife.

These vehicles are not permitted to run on roads designated for cars and trucks.

The public began many minidiscussions among themselves, as ATV’s are always high on the compliant list among residents. Ranger Dziurzynski then opened the floor for public questions.

Tony Durnye was first, wanting to know about the jurisdiction of Park Police.

For the DCNR to have jurisdiction, there must be Park property on both sides of the road. If there is property on only one side of the road, then DCNR only has authority on that side of the road, and not on a residential side.

Rangers are able to call the Pa. State Police.

There was another question as to why Tuttle Beach had been shut down. This was due to not having a certified sewage treatment facility person.

The Ranger stated that Tuttle Beach and Campground is slated to be closed permanently, due to budget cuts. Over $300,000.00 has to be cut from Park operations and there is no financial help in sight.

There was an uproar among the public on hearing this news.

The Fries Road Access was brought up, the Ranger saying that if rains are too heavy in the area, then the gate is put up, to eliminate erosion trouble.

He also stated that Rangers never chase geese and to leave them and other wildlife alone; also do not feed them or bears.

He told the public present at the meeting that to summon a Park Ranger, to simply dial 911 and tell the operator your location, situation and request. There are 3 Rangers on duty in the Pyma-tuning area.

Bears have been spotted in the Pymatuning area and Ranger Dziurzynski told the public not to feed them, and that the rumor that bears were being relocated in the local gamelands was false.

Ranger David Dziurzynski thanked the public for inviting him to speak, and the meeting moved forward to talk of the upcoming Christmas Party.

Jeff Daniels mentioned the Crime Watch signs that were ordered some months ago have been waiting for pick up.

The Citizen Patrol Reports were given and there was no further public participation.

Shirley Clark donated a nice German Chocolate cake and Bobbi Heida donated a pineapple cake with white icing.

Bobbi Heida won the 50/50 drawing.

Having no further business, the motion was made, seconded and carried to adjourn for the evening.

The Shenango Crime Watch meets the third Thursday of the month at 7:00pm, at alternating sites. The public is invited to attend.
