Page 1 of 2 Sharon Ziegler called the Tri- Shenango Townships September Crime Watch meeting to order and asked for the Pledge of Allegiance to be said. Other board members present from South Shenango were Shirley Clark and Bobbi Heida. The board members present from North Shenango were Tony and Linda Durnye. There were 17 citizens present. Linda Durnye read the minutes from the previous meeting in August. The motion carried unanimously to accept the minutes. Bobbi Heida read the Tre-asurer’s Report and gave figures and quotes. There is a balance of $922.32 in the South Shenango Treasurey. The Crime Watch received a "ThankYou" from Leroy Stearns of the Crawford County Humane Society for the donation given. The motion was made, seconded and carried to accept the Treasurer’s Report. State Police Trooper Greenlee was not present at the meeting to give the crime reports. Sharon Ziegler read a letter from Trooper Greenlee pertaining to the report. It appeared to be a watered-down version of the report, not nearly as detailed as it had been in the past. Starting with South Shenango, Ziegler read the report as follows: Criminal mischief at Rt. 322 and Unger Road, a post had been damaged. On Glenwood Drive, shots fired and a bullet hole was discovered in a door. On E. State Street, two windows were smashed in a PennDOT truck. There were burglaries reported on E. Lake Road and Ziegler Drive, and the burglar alarm went off at Walnut Creek Golf Course. An incident reported in Dougherty Allotment. Criminal Trespass was reported on Collins Road and a camp was broken into on Seneca Lane. A shotgun was stolen from Snake Road and garbage cans knocked over. On Sunset Drive, a vehicle was keyed and on Elm Street extension some beef slim jims and a GPS were stolen, along with $50.00. From North Shenango Township: An attempted burglary on Rt. 285 and theft of firewood on Crom Road. From West Shenango: A camp was broken into on Oak Lane, a John Deere yard mower stolen. There was an incident at Richer’s Store and miscellaneous damage at Shagri-La on Williamsfield Road. Chairman of NS Crime Watch, Tony Durnye, read the August Treasurer’s Report from North Shenango. Contributions have made a balance of $277.69 for that account. After the rummage sale, North Shenango changed from National City Bank to First National Bank . They have a new employee pin# in use. The position of Treasurer in North Shenango for the Crime Watch remains open and in need of a person to take over. Durnye stated that now, after the rummage sale, the income was $623.05, including donations. There was another $456.69 given for a total balance of $1,079. 74, for NS Crime Watch. There was a nice round of applause from the audience on hearing this news. The motion then carried unanimously to accept the NS Treasurer’s Report. The guest speaker was State Park Ranger David Dziurzynski from the Pymatuning State Park. He stated he liked the Pymatuning area, and was there to speak because Park Manager Pete Houghton wanted him to meet more people and become more of a public figure. He went on to say that the Crime Watch organization is very important to the community. He mentioned some ongoing projects such as $50,000.00 going toward a gravel ramp across from the Spillway to give access to fishermen or people in wheelchairs to fish in the Lake. There is also fish habitat at Manning and the Red Cross area. Large rocks have been placed near the shores to stop erosion and natural structures, such as trees, have been placed under water. The boat speed limit on Pymatuning has been raised from 10 mph to 20 mph. There had been concerns from citizens, but Ranger Dziurzynski reported there were 0 incidents or accidents. Pymatuning State Park, along with the PLA, had chipped in $20,000.00 toward the new Pavilion and landscape improvements. There is a new catwalk scheduled to be installed at the Espyville Boat Launch in order to dock boats and the Pymatuning Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club is still trying to connect Tuttle Beach to the Spillway for a trail. He also reported incidents of theft are down at boat launches and since the Jamestown Livery has had cameras installed, incidents there have gone to 0. He stated that last summer, due to high gasoline prices, many boat motors and tanks had been stolen. There were no boating accidents to report. He did say they receive many complaints about ATV’s. |
