Linesville Rotary Club inducts two new members at weekly meeting

Community News is pleased to announce the addition of the Linesville Rotary to its coverage Look for Rotary news items, member updates and fundraising events in upcoming issues.

The Linesville Rotary Club held its regular Thursday night meeting at the Knickerbocker

on September 16, 2010, with District #7280 Governor Chris Fiely in attendance.

A dinner catered by Rebecca's Restaurant of salad, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and bread, with a dessert of carrot spice cake was served.

Following dinner, President Chandler Mason brought the meeting to order with the ringing of the bell. The Pledge of Allegiance was said, along with a prayer.

Rotarians in attendance were Dominic Forsina, Duane Thompson, Patricia Gillette, Norma Thompson, Peg Knickerbocker and Dan Mason.

Secretary Cindy Wightman was absent.

Stephanie Fiely, wife of District Governor Chris Fiely, was also in attendance.

President Chandler Mason invited Governor Fiely to stand and give a speech.

Gov. Fiely chose to speak about the Rotary and benefits of joining, along with stats and numbers about charitable causes that the Rotary is involved with.

Gov. Fiely stated that in 25 years of Polio fundraising, the Rotary International has raised over $900,000,000.00 dollars towards administration of oral vaccines world wide.

It is the goal of Rotary International to eliminate the Polio disease from the face of the Earth.

Gov. Fiely was then presented with a beautiful desk plaque from the Linesville Club, made of varnished wood with his name engraved on the front. It included a pen and a clock. The lumber to make it came from Thompson Lumber Company, owned by Rotarians Duane and Norma Thompson.

Governor Fiely thanked the Linesville Rotary, and then asked guests Brian Shade and Roseanne Staab to stand and be inducted into the Linesville Club.

President Mason and Governor Fiely read a small rite before pinning the two new Rotarians with the Rotary Wheel on their lapels, and giving them a Certificate of Membership. (see photos.)

Also included in the New Members Packet is a card with the Rotary Four-Way Test of Integrity for its members, for things they think, say and do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it fair to all concerned?
  3. Will build good will and better friendships?
  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Having no further business, President Mason adjourned the meeting for the evening, and the Club went into the next room for publicity photos.

The Rotary International is a Club for business people who are community oriented, who donate their time and money toward charitable causes.

They meet on a weekly basis to discuss current fundraising and business ideas, make contacts, and discuss local Club and International items of interest.

Rotarians maintain a high ethical standard in business and promote advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world wide fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The Linesville Rotary is part of District # 7280, meets every Thursday night at the Knickerbocker, for members and guests only. New members are welcome.
