Conneaut Lake High School football is no more as the Conneaut School Board voted to merge the Lake team with Linesville High School's team - a co-op like the district has for its cross country, boy's volleyball, golf and cross country units.

The school directors voted 8-0 to eliminate the CLHS football program at the end of the 2010-2011 school year and to enter into a cooperative agreement whereby the Linesville High School will serve as the host school in a PIAA Cooperative agreement. The PIAA is the entity that oversees high school sports in the state.

The school board decision, made more with numbers of students playing than a money saving idea, effectively means a Linesville Lion team with players from Linesville and Conneaut Lake playing together; the varsity/junior varsity will play at Linesville while the junior high will play at Conneaut Lake under the Linesville name; that Linesville uniforms will be worn at the varsity level this upcoming season with the Linesville junior high wearing Conneaut Lake uniforms; the junior varsity team may also wear the Lake uniform depending on numbers; in time all will wear a Linesville uniform as Linesville is the host school;

if not this year, then next there will be one cheerleading squad with girls from both schools trying out,, this year a combined squad will see both Linesville and Lake uniforms worn; the two school bands will become one for the football season although that may be another year down the road. Details are being worked out. Residents are reminded as a budget item, none of the Conneaut bands will travel to away games unless Band Boosters pay the costs; the same is true for cheerleaders;

there will be two Homecomings this upcoming year - one for Lake and one for Linesville on two different game nights, but that will become one another year down the road.
