Greig will serve as Acting Secretary until confirmed by the State Senate. He began work Monday, Jan. 31.

Greig is a Conneaut Township resident and operates a 650-acre farm with his brother, Tim. Both are Conneaut Township supervisors with George Greig noting he may have to step down as supervisor in the near future.

He is chairman of the Conneaut Township supervisors and has served on the board of supervisors for some time.

Other offices held by Greig include service on the USDA Farm Service Agency's Pennsylvania State Committee, the Crawford County Conservation District and the Great Lake's Regional Water Boards. He has also been candidate for other local office in the past including county commissioner.

The Greig Farm, once primarily a dairy farm operation, concentrates on crops these days including hay and soybeans.

Corbett's announcement of Greig's appointment noted Greig's experience as "experienced farmer, businessman and leader. He will oversee a department staff of 900 employees .

Pennsylvania has some 63,000 farms, most family owned. It is the state's number one industry.
