LINESVILLE - Don't expect Linesville borough to plow snow off the sidewaks in downtown Linesville anymore. That was the direction Linesville Borough Council took when meeting in March session with councilmen Ron Harper, Kevin McGrath, Ron Vennare, and Pete Fizer present. Also present was newly appointed councilwoman Sharon Kobel, appointed to replace the resigned Matt Gillette. She was the only person who expressed interest in the vacant seat. She will serve through December 2011. Laughing Duck business owner and property owner Cindy Wightman was present to point out the borough worker had ruined the curb in front of her property while taking snow away from the front of her property. She noted she contacted the mayor and streets committee chairman Tom McGrath, absent from the meeting, and both said she should not be responsible. McGrath had also written a letter to that effect. She also noted she piled snow from her walk on the edge of the walk next to the street as she hd been instructed to do by McGrath and Vennare. She noted the curb was just 4 years old and pointed out the borough worker also had destroyed the Rotary bench just above the bridge area while plowing snow. K. McGrath made motion to instruct the streets committee to see the curb was repaired by a professional. Motion carried. Wightman came in to the meeting saying she had been told she would need to pay 50% of the repair cost with K. McGrath saying she had been told by the mayor and T. McGrath not to worry about it, than the borough should take care of [the repairs/costs]. He noted the borough does not clear walks and businesses should shovel snow into the streets. |
