Conneaut School Board members, faced with ever increasing costs and limited income, voted at its meeting on Nov. 10, to have students pay a $10 fee towards their athletic physicals beginning with the next school year.

As the issue was discussed over the past several months, it was noted a number of students have been taking the physicals but then do not take part or join one of the teams.

A survey of area schools showed that 16 schools collect a fee already so the idea is not new in the area.

The school board, at its October meeting and written about in an earlier report in these pages, voted to increase its ticket prices to athletic events beginning next school year as well.

The district uses gate receipt money to help pay the costs of the athletic program.

Ticket prices will go up $1.00 for both students and adults. Those age 65 and above will be able to purchase a season's pass for $5.00 for a season - that $5 for fall, $5 for winter, and $5 for spring.

The board has approved a number of coaches for the winter program over the past couple of meetings. They include, at Conneaut Lake, Nick White, head boys basketball coach; Derek Thomas, assistant boys BB coach; Tom Courtney, head wrestling coach; Matt Horne, assistant wrestling coach; Greg Dinsmore, jr. high wrestling coach; at Conneaut Valley, Rick Chesko, head girls basketball coach; Rich Jones, girls assistant; Bob Leupold, head boys basketball coach; Scott Palotas, boys assistant; Amanda Scott, basketball cheerleading director; Jeremiah Conley, boys junior high basketball coach;

and at Linesville, Steve Mickle, boys head basketball coach; Dennis Buchanan, boys assistant; Bill Stevenson, girls head basketball coach; and Megan Storck, girls BB assistant coach.
