The committees that will make recommendations regarding the future setup and operations of the Conneaut School District will hold their organizational meeting Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m., at Linesville High School.

Four committees will study five plans and make recommendations to the school board as to how educational services will be delivered to the children of the Conneaut School District - those currently attending Conneaut Lake, Conneaut Valley and Linesville Schools.

The B.U.S.S - Better Utilization of School Space - committees will organize into a budget committee, a transportation committee, a curriculum committee, and a facilities use committee.

The evening will kick off with Assistant Superintendent/Substitute Superintendent Jarrin Sperry presenting what is facing the school district in upcoming years - items ranging from declining enrolment, stagnant tax revenues, a state pension funding crisis, cutbacks in state support for schools, and how best to send the children of the school district out to compete with students world wide among many issues.

Three persons from each of the three areas - Lake, Valley and Linesville - will serve on the committees along with two school board members and members of the school administration.

The five plans have been outlined in these pages before and include keeping the three current elementary schools and the three high schools as is. Plans include having Linesville High School serve as a single high school for grades 9 - 12, keeping the three current elementaries and having the Lake and Valley High Schools become middle schools, perhaps for grades 7 - 9; one plan has Linesville Elementary serving as a K - 2 school center, Linesville High School as a senior high school and one school in the Lake area and Valley area serve a grades 3 - 8 population with a couple schools sold.

Despite some comments seen and read, the current school directors have discussed none of the plans and hope to work for the best solution under current and projected circumstances noted above - declining enrolments, limited tax base, etc.

Once committees do their work and recommendations made, it is planned to send surveys out to the public in an effort to gauge their views and recommendations.

Committee names will be told.
