There had been a complaint about Ace's Bar and Grille not mowing the lawn on the property and that situation has been rectified. Lake View Ford purchased the building formerly known as Mama Bear's Restaurant. The plans are to renovate it in order to utilize it as a detail shop and wash area. All permits are in order with that as well. Road Master Dave Hubbard gave his report and imparted to those in attendance the work that had been done in the last month. The work included: spray patching, examining trucks for the winter, fall grating, salt storage and basically getting ready for the snow to fly. There was quite a discussion about a large tree that had fallen directly on the right of way and a property line on Canal Road in the township. This would be in the area considered to be Shermansville but further south on Canal right near Rt. 285. The tree is situated on the property of Sam Lobins and is too large for the township to move without having to get some outside help. Generally, the road crew is able to take care of such things but, this tree is quite huge. Therefore, they will have to pay for it to be dropped. Lobins would like the wood and just asked that the tree be dropped onto his property and he would take it from there, so to speak. Supervisor Whaley was apprehensive about spending money for this as it is not the custom of the township to do so. However, he understood that the tree was simply too big. The bottom line was Hubbard is to approach Lobins about splitting the cost of moving the tree with the township. If he agrees, they will proceed with the task. On the subject of trees, or leaves, in this case, residents are reminded that the burning of leaves is to take place during daylight hours. Do not burn leaves if you are in close proximity to another person's home. They may not be burned on roadways or in township ditches and a person must be with the fire at all times. For any questions pertaining to burning leaves, please contact the office at 814-382-8579. A resident had complained because there is no leaf collection in the township. Hubbard mentioned the machinery involved and how rocks and other debris beside leaves could reek havoc with the blades, for instance. He said the repair for that type of scenario is quite costly and indicated that the rocks would be impossible to avoid in certain areas of the region. Whaley said that they simply could not take on an additional expense like leaf collecting. On the topic of burning in general, residents were reminded at the meeting that a controlled burn requires a permit. Once again, use the above mentioned phone number for more details. A reminder that Trick or Treat night will be on Thursday, October 29, from 6 until 7:30. Residents are asked to keep an eye out for demons, devils and other spooky “beings” and to drive carefully during those hours. The next township meeting will take place on November 10 at 6:30. |
