The Conneaut Lake Regional Police Commission has taken on the added task of gathering as much information as possible pertaining to Linesville Borough climbing on board and becoming official members of the Commission.

This was discussed briefly at the September Police Commission meeting after an email was received from the secretary of Linesville Council indicating that they wanted Conneaut Lake to proceed with crunching numbers for 24/7 coverage.

There were two different options that Linesville could have taken with one of them being a contract with Conneaut Lake, and the other becoming a full-blown member of the Commission. As mentioned above, they are interested in the latter of the two.

Supervisor Roy Whaley, Conneaut Lake Mayor Tim Kaider, Police Chief Pfeifer and Township/Police Commission Secretary Rose Mumau are all a part of a special work team charged with ironing out the details concerning Linesville joining the department.

Whaley mentioned that some work sessions have unfolded with another one being scheduled for the near future. Because Linesville is now wanting to become full members of the Commission, they will be looking at a higher cost than if they would have gone the contract route.

However, with the higher cost comes more coverage so the Commission is trying to work out the details.

As has been mentioned in other reports about this issue, the whole procedure can be time consuming, when it comes to regional departments, as a certain protocol must be followed. There is a person in Harrisburg who aides with the process as well.

So, things are moving forward and the work team has been trying to come up with the most cost effective method that will be satisfactory to all involved.

On the topic of money, Secretary Mumau presented the Commission with a rough draft of the upcoming 2011 budget for the department.

They are confident that, once again, they will come under budget this year. The Commission has been operating on a 2003 budget for seven years now.

Another topic that was broached quickly was that of Walt, from Walt's Tavern. He had expressed thanks for the assistance and help from the police department, as well as from the local fire departments, during the recent bike weekend.

The chief presented the activity report for August and it was as follows: There were 9 traffic citations issued in the township and 2 in the borough;

1 warrant served in the township with one person arrested with said warrant; 1 felony arrests in the township and 1 in the borough;

1 misdemeanor arrests in the township; 1 field interview in the township; 9 incident reports in the township and 6 in the borough;

2 incidents cleared in the township and 3 in the borough;

6 accident reports in the township with 2 injuries and 2 accident reports in the borough with no injuries;

7 follow up reports in the township and 2 in the borough; 78 calls in the township and 21 in the borough and 3 outside the area;

48 verbal/written warnings in the township and 55 in the borough; 54 traffic stops in the township and 55 in the borough and 3 motorist assists in the township and 5 in the borough.

K9 activities were: 8 hours of training.

Property value lost/stolen was $1,035 in the township and $3,276 in the borough with $400 property value recovered in the borough.

The next meeting of the Conneaut Lake Regional Police Commission will take place on October 20, at 6:30.

The meetings are held at the Sadsbury Township building and begin at 6:30.
