Homecoming 2010 – Rally in the Valley has been established as this year’s theme.

The May meeting was called to order by Interim President, Patricia Gillette. After the Pledge of Allegiance guests Barry Rote and Chrissy Shongo of One Stop Printing introduced themselves. One Stop Printing will be producing the 2010 Homecoming book. Rote guaranteed a much better presentation than in previous years and set the deadline for entries as Monday, June 14. He will also work with this year’s theme to produce a logo.

The Treasurer’s Report was given with cautious optimism that all funding will be in place before July.

Under Old Business, fundraising efforts were reviewed.

Ruth Merritt had asked the American Legion Post 615 for a donation. Tim Prince, Treasurer for the American Legion, reported their support would be covering all expenses for the Homecoming Parade. The news was greeted with applause and thanks.

The April Night at the Races event reported a loss of $50.78. Planners were unsure about the cause and indicated it could have been that the event was held on a Friday rather than a Saturday or that lack of advertising or both were reasons for the poor turnout.

The Reverse Raffle event was scheduled for a Friday night as well, so a change of venue was discussed and President Gillette will check with other facilities for available times.

At that time Gillette indicated a need for the formation of an Executive Committee. Tracy Chason, Chris Greig, Patricia Gillette and Sue Joslin were approved for this decision-making committee.

The Softball Tournament has advertising out but the Flea Market scheduled for the same day needs to confirm its venue due to a motion passed to change the venue to Springboro. The softball tournament and flea market are to be held in the same general vicinity. Gillette will contact Kathy Kean regarding the motion passage.

The Golf Outing was confirmed for Saturday, July 24, at Venango Valley. Forms for entry will be made available at the Valley Inn, Conneautville Hardware, as well as Laura’s and Pittsenbarger’s Grocery in Springboro. The cost will be $65.00 per person or $260 for a team of four and a 1:30 PM shotgun start. The cost will include a cart, light lunch and a steak dinner following. Sponsorships will be available at $100.00 per hole.

Chris Greig reported on the locally placed Money Jars. A total will be given when the project is completed. The Photo Shoot was discussed and Gillette will check into the restrictions on this fundraiser and a decision was tabled until the June meeting.

The Great “Hoo Rah” fundraising effort was decided upon and Maureen McBride agreed to chair this event. The event will need ten individuals willing to run for the coveted position of “The Great Hoo Rah” at the Rally in the Valley.

It was decided to rent the tents for the entire five days of Home-coming and invitations to parade participants will be sent out in the next week.

After moving on to New Business, Nancy Hewitt and her daughter, Kayla, presented an idea for a new Homecoming week pageant: “Mr. Conneaut Valley” for young men from ninth through twelfth grade was introduced and approved by vote. Nancy and Kayla will chair this portion of the pageant activities.

Pageant sponsors are needed in order to continue with these successful Homecoming events.

Maureen McBride introduced the Conneautville Planning Commission’s thevalleyshops.com web site and requested approval to film and capture the essence of small town living as well as some of the local talent on film during the Homecoming event. A motion was passed to approve.

Sue Joslin introduced some of the flea market items for sale. Tables for the Flea Market will be $10.00 each.

Penny Raffle tickets are still available from Homecoming Committee members.
