The Conneaut Valley Area Historical Society meeting was held February 22. President, Betty Kovac called the meeting to order. Secretary Pat Vedner read the minutes from the November 2009 meeting and Betty Logan gave the Treasurer’s report. A discussion on the difference between a 501 (c)(3) and 509(a)(2) took place Public Charity status was reviewed. The difference lies in the type of support revenue an organization receives and both are viewed as tax exempt organizations by the IRS. The most recent newsletter has been sent to the 2008 and 2009 membership list. Josh Sherretts, Kathy Comp and Pat Vedner were asked to contribute to the next newsletter due to be published in July. Kathy indicated she will be writing about the Center Street metal truss bridge. Locating a map of the borough storm sewers was discussed by the members. Betty indicated she would like to transfer ownership of the building to the society and is exploring tax liability for the society with an attorney. An assessment would need to be completed as well. It was decided that Kathy will contact the Linesville Museum to check on their tax liability status as a tax exempt museum. CVAHS has been approached by the Crawford County Historical Society for a civil war artifacts display to be housed at the Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute on Route 322. The Conneaut Valley Alumni Association requested digital photographs of some education related photographs for a visual display at the upcoming Alumni Banquet. A motion was made regarding digitized copies of historical society artifacts and the possession of the digitized copies to remain with the CVAHS museum. A nominating committee was appointed for the election of officers at the May 24, meeting. An election will take place at that time and June 1 will begin the new year for incoming officers. Thanks to the efforts of Rick Welker, CVAHS T-shirts are available for sale at the museum. They may be purchased during the museum’s open hours on Saturday between noon and 2:00 PM or by appointment with the President. |
