Welcome to another week! I’m especially thankful that I live in the Atlantic community this week. I left my debit card in the parking lot at the BP in Jamestown on Monday, and some honest soul turned it in. God is always watching over me, which is a good thing, since I’m convinced that I left half of my brain in the maternity ward. I used to be much smarter.

So, here are the top five reasons I’m glad I live in the Atlantic community:

5. We have sweet, fresh air to breathe.

4. When you go outside at night, you can see the stars, not just the orange glow of street lights.

3. If your car breaks down, you’ll have three drivers offer to help you in ten minutes’ time.

2. We have neighbors who will plow your driveway just because they know you don’t have a blade for your truck or tractor.

1. If you leave your debit or credit card in the parking lot of a convenience store, someone will turn it in to the cashier; they won’t steal it and bankrupt you.

I have come to appreciate all of these things over the past ten years, and I hope you have, too.

Huge congratulations go out to Hannah Horne, valedictorian of Greenville High School! Whoo-hoo! I’m so proud of her. Hannah used to baby-sit my kids three years ago.

And another big congratulations to Angela Hanna, salutatorian of Greenville High School. Angela is George and Martha Hanna’s granddaughter. In case you don’t know George and Martha, they live in Atlantic and are two of the nicest people you’d ever want to meet. Way to go, girls!

The men’s appreciation dinner on June 4, at Fallowfield United Methodist Church turned out great, with around 30 men attending. The ladies of the church cooked and served a nice meal of poor man’s steak, Florentine style vegetables, and homemade pie. Afterward, these ladies put on a hilarious play for the guys. Everyone had fun.

Flag Day is June 14. If you own one, could you please fly a flag and show your patriotism?

Vacation Bible School is 6-8:30 p.m. from June 14 – 18 at Fallowfield United Methodist. The program and hot dog roast are at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 18. Walk-ins are welcome, as are kids who can only attend one or two nights. Just come if you can, kids! Expect snacks, games, Bible stories, and new friendships.

The Vacation Bible School fundraiser this year is for Nothing But Nets, a charity that combines efforts from the United Methodist Church, the United Nations Foundation, Sports Illustrated, the National Basketball Association, Millennium Promise and the Measles Initiative. Nothing But Nets saves lives, plain and simple. Hanging a net over the beds of sleeping children can save millions of African lives. All collected funds go to buying bed nets through the United Methodist Committee on Relief.

The monthly senior citizen lunch is at Fallowfield United Methodist at noon on June 19. Come for a yummy, free lunch, entertainment, and conversation.

Father’s Day is June 20. Maybe you can get your Dad a card and a gift certificate to his favorite store or restaurant.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings!
