She’ll be driving 6 white horses

The Spillway is always a nice place to go on any afternoon throughout the year. Weather is of no consequence; angry storms and roiling clouds look amazing at anytime, with their wild scurrying and rain-splashed skies, fighting over the wind.

People can be seen visiting the fishbowl, small children in tow, in the most inclement of meteorological phenomenon. Turbid spray hits jagged rock, thick, opaque and suspended.

The variety of ornithological species there can provide an optical diversion for hours, from small songbirds flitting about in a thicket, to gangs of Bufflehead Ducks bobbing to and fro near the shoreline, to a majestic eagle doing a serious, soaring fly-by, so close to Earth that the immaculate, white feathers can be distinguished from his sharp, all-encompassing eye.

Snow birds, the human kind, should be returning to Espyville soon, from Florida.

Neighbors and friends will have a lot of catching-up to do; things such as snow fall totals or ice fishing adventures can be compared to sunny days and the price of strawberries.

Our March Birthdays are for Ed Herald on the 12th and Betty Seyerle on the 18th.

St. Patrick’s Day is here, a mile post for Springtime, and motorcycles are already on the roads.

Swans are passing through, a harbinger of warmer days to come.

A Do-Wopp Dance will be held at the North Shenango Community Center on Rt. 285, beside 17 House in Espyville, on Saturday, March 20, from 7:00pm to 11:00pm.

Doors will open at 6:00pm and the event is BYOB.

Cost is $7.00 at the door and will feature music from the ‘50's and ‘60's with artists the Saturday Do-Wopp Diner, with Cool 101.7. Also featuring DJ’s Donny Do-Wopp, Chuck the Weatherman, Rockin’ Roger, and Bonnie and Pinky.

Congratulations are in order for Espyville’s own Michael White, son of David and Marietta White. Mike is a Firefighter with 17 House, the NSVFD, and he has just earned his National Firefighter One Certification.

This is quite an accomplishment; not all Firefighters receive this honor, and it is helpful for Fire Departments that are seeking grant money for funding of projects.

White also works as a professional Firefighter in the Greenville area.

Remember the NSVFD is an all-volunteer organization. Citizens should hear their requests for financial help and be aware that Fire Departments depend on the generosity of the people they serve.

Please weigh all points of view in the months to come, and understand where this Fire Department is coming from. home, business and property owners must keep in mind the huge costs it takes to maintain trucks, equipment, buildings, uniforms and all bills presented to 17 House for payment.

Attending local Supervisor Board meetings will keep citizens informed as to possible developments, as representatives from 17 House are also at these meetings.

The North Shenango Board of Supervisors meets every second Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

No one should come around complaining at a later time if meetings are not attended by the public or questions asked.

Anyone having an emergency such as an auto accident, health problem or fire at any time of day or night, in any kind of weather, will be glad to see those big red trucks pulling in to help.

The entire membership of 17 House meets weekly for training and practice; safe to say citizens would be in good hands.

Do you want to get out of bed at 3:00am on a cold, winter night to go fight a fire? Maybe you’d like to fight your own fire with a garden hose or some buckets.

Perhaps citizens should appeal to the State of Pennsylvania for monetary donations; due to the anti-smoking ban, Firehouse Bingo is no longer profitable.

Since the government stepped in to dictate what private citizens and business owners should and should not do, perhaps it’s time the government steps in to help local Fire Departments cover operating costs.

Know the issue and consider it from all sides. Attend the meetings and ask questions; the NSVFD must remain solvent or citizens will have nothing left but old hand-pumpers hauled by six white horses.

We’ll talk again soon.

Keep the rain off your bumper and the mud off your tail. Thanks for reading the Espyville Buzz and keep on buying the Community News.

Leaving you for this week with the immortal sounds of the Glenn Miller Band and a little "Moonlight Serenade," sponsored by Chesterfields.
