Karen the Cougar says

"Support your N. Shenango

Fire Department!" while

Coffee Klatch enjoys summer

The Espyville All-Boys Coffee Klatch, which meets every Wednesday morning, was out in full force last week, with 15 people present, some of whom were wives or girlfriends.

The Klatch doesn’t keep a strict rule on the "all boys" part.

Clarence "Dewey" Forsythe, Paul Rheinhardt, Ronnie Staab and Glenn Linn were all spotted having a cup o’ Joe at a local restaurant.

The boys all look forward to meeting each week, noting that there are still lots of tourists around, and telling everyone to stay safe in traffic; you know how Linn Road can get at 9:00 in the morning.

Sweet corn season seemed to be the topic of the Klatch’s weekly discussion, along with how everyone’s gardens are producing lots of tomatoes, peppers and green beans.

Glenn Linn’s grandchildren could be seen at a small sweet corn stand set up in his fields, selling corn, and Bill Petronio called the other day, wondering if we would like to try some of his.

Happy August Birthday to our own Brian Shade on the 27th of the month. We celebrated with beer and brats, sauerkraut and baked beans, topped off with birthday cake.

Lifelong friends stopped in, along with family, and it’s always good to see everyone. Karen the Cougar got in on it by requesting some tuna fish with eggs, celebrating feline-style by gratefully licking her chops.

Speaking of licking your chops...

The North Shenango Volunteer Fire Department is hosting their annual Chicken BBQ Dinner on Saturday, September 4th, starting at 11:00 am.

Follow your nose and that wonderful BBQ smell straight to 17 House for some really good summertime fare.

For $7.50, you get a half a chicken, corn on the cob, coleslaw, dessert and a drink.

We went last year, and are looking forward to this year’s event. All proceeds to benefit the NS-VFD 17 House, and your support will be greatly appreciated.

You don’t have to cook and you can get into the spirit of summer with a nice BBQ dinner.

Brian keeps asking about it and even Karen the Cougar was hoping for some leftover tidbits off our plates.

Take-out is available or you can dine in at 17 House itself. Take a tour and meet your local Fire Department members while you support a great organization.

Dial 17 House at Westford- 2122 for more information.

NSVFD also will be sponsoring their annual Boot Drive for Jerry’s MDA.

Last year, in 2009, 17 House donated the $5,700.00 they raised during the televised MDA fund drive. This Boot Drive goes strictly to the MDA, none of it remains in Espyville

Please drop some "loot in the boot" at local traffic intersections and these fine local eating establishments: Bill’s Country Market, Lakeside General, Li’l Bit, Russell’s Restaurant, Yorkie’s Grill and also the NSVD Bingo Hall.

Folks should patronize these establishments to support the local Espyville economy.

So far in August, 17 House has answered 18 calls, including 2 water rescues on Pymatuning Lake, a fire standby call, a falling victim and a citizens’ assist on Pymatuning Lake.

The Pymatuning Lake Association continues to look for volunteers.

Apparently there is no Youth Fishing Tournament this year; nothing on the website.

It seems that the last update on the website was in June for the fish crib project.

If you are looking for something to do, like the outdoors or would like to volunteer, go to www.pymatuninglakeassociation.com for information.

Fishing is a great past-time for folks young and old; get on out and enjoy summer while you can.

Pretty soon the wild geese will be flying and scarecrows and pumpkins will be the decor du jour.

Remember that the North Shenango Township Board of Supervisors meets every second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm over on Linn Road.

Shenango Crime Watch meets every third Thursday at alternating sites, 7:00pm.

Football is already starting up and Big Ben actually threw a few balls in last week’s pre-season game. Troy Palamolu is looking good, with his knee and so does Mewelde Moore.

Brian Shade is always looking good and is slowly coming out of his FSOD’s, or Football Season’s Over Disorder, he’s recognizing the numbers on the Steelers’ jerseys and he can call plays with the best of them.

Espyville is Steeler’s Country, at least the east side of it is, and we’ll be attentively watching all the games, along with our faithful Cougar Cat who roars every time the boys from Smoky City score.

Here’s to your Happy Football Season, we’ve been waiting all year.

Stick around in Espyville, folks, you’ll be glad you did. The people here are friendlier, the fish are bigger, the beer is colder and old Steelers fans never die.

That’s a wrap for this week, folks, and I do mean garlic bologna and braunschweiger.

Keep the bugs off your bumper and the dust off your tail. Thanks for reading the Espyville Buzz and keep on buying the Community News.

Leaving you, as always, with the immortal sounds of the Glenn Miller Band and a little "Moonlight Serenade," sponsored by Chesterfields.
