Spring is so beautiful at Pymatuning; all the baby ducks and geese are making their debut at the Spillway, and the famous bread-eating carp have made their annual return to the fishbowl.

There are a lot of motorcycles on the road now, so be aware and take the proper safety precautions. Do not send text messages or fuss with your kids in the back seat. Putting on make- up while driving is a no-no, as is eating banana splits or chili con carne.

Happy May Birthdays to Ralph Anlauf on the 12th, Dan Praskavich on the 23rd, Connie Urban on the 23rd, also, and Deiter Meyer on the 22nd.

The Crappie Round Up on May 2nd was a huge success, with 83 teams competing and 54 teams presenting fish for weigh-in.

First place anglers were Jason Heinbaugh and Ben Lahti with 6.85 pounds. Second place was John W. Sisley and John M. Sisley at 6.70 pounds and third place was Ken Weilacher and Kevin O’Rourke at 6.65 pounds.

The Walleye Tournament was held on May 16 and it had 68 teams competing, with 34 teams weighing in. First place went to Mike Davidson and Bob Wilson at 14.95 pounds. Second place was won by Jason Humphreys, Jr. and Curt Distel at 13.90 pounds. Third place went to Matthew Harwedel and James Wacker at 13.65 pounds.

The 2009 Kids Free Fishing Derby will be held August 1 and 2, at 8:00am each day, over at the new PLA Pavilion on the east side of the Causeway.

Prizes will be awarded in 7 categories of fish, including carp. Ages for children are the 2-5 group, the 6-10 group and the 11-15 group.

Remember that the Pymatuning Pavilion dedication will be held on June 13, 2009, at 1:00pm. The fish crib project is slated for June 10 and 11 at 8:00am on the north side of the Ohio end of the Causeway.

National Safe Boating Week continues and National Fishing and Boating Week starts on June 6th.

Crawford County Youth Field day will be held June 27, 2009 out at the Pymatuning Sportsman’s Club in Linesville, for information call (724) 927-6149.

The Bonanza Bingo’s have returned to the North Shenango Community Center, they had 75 people show up on the 11th for the season opener. The kitchen is always cooking, serving hot dogs, kraut dogs, sloppy Joe’s and kielbasa, along with fresh coffee.

This just in from the North Shenango Volunteer Fire Department: A fabulous Gun Raffle is in the offing; Gun-A-Week tickets can be purchased at local restaurants or the Marina for $50.00. The drawings will be held during 2010 for 52 weeks straight. That’s a long time to win, like a long Espyville afternoon. All of the Firemen are selling tickets, and if you don’t opt for the gun, a gift certificate will be available from Gander Mountain Sport.

These hard-working men and women just got certified for the AED, or difibrulator for heart attack victims. Congratulations to our local heroes on that one! We know we are in safe hands with the North Shenango Volunteer Fire Department.

Remember to give generously to the NSVFD; you never know when it might be you at 3:00am some dark night. They are all- volunteer and all-caring and you’ll be glad you donated should you ever require their services.

Karen the Cougar is on the prowl! She thinks she is big stuff, running around the yard with her ears back and sticking on trees. She thinks she is going to catch a bird, but an occasional earthworm will do. She will not even come to Brian when she is hunting, even when he says there is Steeler sporting news on tv.

Karen the Cougar tried to exercise her voting and First Amendment rights on the 19th at the Primary and was told that Cougars aren’t allowed to vote in North Shenango Township. She let Brian know she’ll vote for the Salmon flavored cat food he feeds her and that would be fine, and that the trailer gets pretty darn hot in summer; make sure that AC is hooked-up and running.

Like I keep saying, everything is better when you’re at Pymatuning. The people are friendlier, the sunsets more gorgeous, the beer is colder and the air more fresh. Did I tell you the fish are bigger here, too?

Stick a fork in it, folks, this column is done for the week. Keep the bugs off your bumper and the dust off your tail. Thanks for reading the Espyville Buzz and keep on buying the Community News.

Leaving you with the immortal sounds of the Glenn Miller Band and a little "Moonlight Serenade," sponsored by Chesterfields.
